I think one of the most enchanting parts of a Disney Christmas vacation happens somewhere else entirely.

The Disney resorts.

Every holiday season, Disney transforms its resort hotels into beautiful displays of Christmas trees, seasonal décor, music, and festive atmosphere. As a travel advisor, Disney enthusiast, and mom who has visited Walt Disney World during the holidays, I always encourage my clients to carve out time to explore the resorts.

In fact, I think it’s one of the best ways to slow down and experience a different kind of Disney magic.

Why You Should Visit the Resorts During the Holidays

The parks are exciting.

They’re busy.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

The Contemporary always feels festive during the holidays.

The soaring lobby provides the perfect backdrop for a towering Christmas tree, and watching the Monorail glide through the resort never gets old.

Whether you’re enjoying dinner at Chef Mickey’s, grabbing a quick bite at Contempo Café, or simply taking in the decorations, it’s a wonderful stop on a holiday resort-hopping day.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

The Polynesian somehow manages to blend tropical island vibes with Christmas in a way that simply works.

Holiday decorations mixed with lush greenery, tiki torches, and island music create one of the most unique Christmas experiences you’ll find anywhere.

While you’re there, grab a DOLE Whip from Pineapple Lanai or enjoy dinner overlooking Seven Seas Lagoon.

The atmosphere is relaxed, festive, and unmistakably Disney.

Disney’s Riviera Resort

If you’re looking for elegant holiday décor, Riviera is one of my favorites.

Inspired by the European Riviera, the resort feels sophisticated yet welcoming during the Christmas season.

The Skyliner makes getting here incredibly easy, making Riviera a fantastic addition to a holiday resort-hopping itinerary.

Don’t forget to spend a few minutes admiring the murals and beautiful outdoor spaces while you’re there.

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn

Walking around Disney’s BoardWalk during the holidays is one of my favorite evening activities.

The lights reflecting across Crescent Lake, festive decorations, live entertainment, and holiday atmosphere create a relaxing experience that feels completely different from the parks.

Grab a snack, stroll along the water, and enjoy one of Disney’s most charming resort areas.

Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts

If I had to describe these resorts in one word during the holidays…

Cozy.

The classic New England-inspired architecture feels like it was made for Christmas.

Walking through the beautifully decorated lobbies before heading outside to Crescent Lake always puts me in the holiday spirit.

This is another wonderful stop if you’re spending the day exploring the EPCOT resort area.

🎄 My Favorite Holiday Resort Hopping Route

One of my favorite ways to experience Walt Disney World during the holidays is by spending an afternoon resort hopping. It’s a relaxing break from the parks and a wonderful opportunity to see some of Disney’s most beautiful Christmas decorations—all without using a park ticket.

Here’s the route I recommend most often to my clients:

🚝 Monorail Resort Loop

Start at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, where you can admire the soaring Christmas tree, browse the shops, or grab a coffee before beginning your holiday adventure.

Next, hop aboard the Monorail to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. The tropical holiday décor creates a festive atmosphere that’s unlike anywhere else at Walt Disney World. If you have time, treat yourself to a DOLE Whip from Pineapple Lanai or enjoy a relaxing walk along Seven Seas Lagoon.

If your schedule allows, continue around the Monorail loop to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. (Even if you’re not staying there, it’s well worth a visit during the holidays for its iconic Christmas tree and elegant seasonal decorations.)

🚡 Skyliner to Disney’s Riviera Resort

On another day—or after visiting EPCOT—ride the Disney Skyliner to Disney’s Riviera Resort. The European-inspired holiday decorations feel elegant and inviting, making it one of my favorite places to slow down and enjoy the season.

Take time to explore the beautiful grounds, admire the artwork throughout the resort, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere before continuing your adventure.

🚤 Crescent Lake Stroll

Finish your holiday tour around Crescent Lake, where Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts shine during the Christmas season.

This is one of my favorite areas to explore in the evening. The lights reflecting on the water, festive decorations, and lively BoardWalk atmosphere create a completely different kind of Disney magic. Stroll the waterfront, browse the shops, enjoy dinner or dessert, and simply take in the sights at a slower pace.

💡 Travel Advisor Tip

You don’t have to see every resort in one day.

In fact, I recommend choosing one resort area—Monorail, Skyliner, or Crescent Lake—and enjoying it at a relaxed pace. You’ll have more time to appreciate the holiday decorations, enjoy a meal, and discover the little details that make each resort unique.

One of the biggest planning mistakes I see is trying to do too much in one day. Holiday resort hopping is meant to be savored, not rushed.

One of My Favorite Disney Traditions

One of my family’s favorite traditions isn’t tied to a ride.

It’s slowing down.

We love grabbing a warm drink, wandering through the resort lobbies, admiring the decorations, taking family photos, and appreciating the details Disney’s Imagineers and cast members create each holiday season.

These quieter moments often become some of our favorite memories.

My Advice as a Travel Advisor

One of the biggest mistakes I see guests make is trying to spend every minute inside the parks.

Disney vacations are about so much more than attractions.
