Why Simba’s Clubhouse at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Has Become One of Our Favorite Disney Resort Traditions

Sometimes my favorite Disney memories aren’t from the parks at all.

They’re the slower moments.
The quieter moments.
The ones where nobody is rushing to the next Lightning Lane or checking the wait times on their phone.

And for our family, one of those places has become Simba’s Clubhouse at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Over the years, we’ve spent time there both while staying at the resort and during resort hopping days, and somehow it’s become one of those comforting Disney traditions we always look forward to.

Not because it’s flashy or overhyped.

But because it gives us something Disney vacations don’t always naturally create anymore:
Space to slow down.

What Is Simba’s Clubhouse?

Located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Simba’s Clubhouse is a community activity space where families can relax, create crafts, play games, and take a break from the nonstop pace of the parks.

And honestly? I think places like this are incredibly underrated at Disney World.

A lot of people spend months planning rides and dining reservations without realizing some of the best vacation moments happen during the downtime.

Why We Keep Coming Back

For us, Simba’s Clubhouse has become part of the rhythm of our Disney trips.

Sometimes we stop there during midday breaks after a busy park morning.

Other times, we intentionally build resort days into our schedule because we know everyone needs time to decompress.

And every single time, we end up staying longer than we planned.

There’s something about sitting down together without a schedule that just feels good.

No rushing.
No crowds.
No pressure to “maximize” the vacation.

Just time together.

The Perler Beads Have Become a Tradition

If you know, you know 💛

One of our favorite activities at Simba’s Clubhouse is making Perler bead creations.

And honestly? This simple activity has become one of the things my kids talk about most after our trips.

Not because it’s extravagant.

But because they remember:
✨ Sitting together
✨ Choosing colors
✨ Creating designs
✨ Laughing and relaxing together

Those are the kinds of vacation memories that stick.

And as a parent, I’ve realized those quieter moments often end up meaning more than the big-ticket attractions.

We Also Love the Ceramics

Another thing we always look forward to is the ceramic painting.

There’s something surprisingly calming about sitting down in the middle of a Disney vacation and simply painting together.

Especially at a resort like Animal Kingdom Lodge, where the atmosphere already feels peaceful and immersive.

It slows everyone down in the best possible way.

And honestly? I wish more families planned for moments like this during their Disney trips.

Because burnout at Disney is real.

Sometimes everyone just needs:
☕ A break from stimulation
🎨 A quiet activity
🌿 A slower afternoon
🛋️ Time to simply exist together

Simba’s Clubhouse gives families space for exactly that.

Why Animal Kingdom Lodge Is Perfect for Resort Days

Part of what makes Simba’s Clubhouse feel so special is the resort itself.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of the best Disney resorts for slowing down.

Between:
🦒 Savanna animal viewing
🔥 Cozy seating areas
🌿 Incredible theming
🍽️ Amazing dining
🎨 Activities like Simba’s Clubhouse

…it genuinely feels like a destination on its own.

Even when we aren’t staying there, we often find ourselves resort hopping back because the atmosphere is so relaxing.

And honestly? It’s one of the resorts that reminds me Disney vacations don’t always have to be nonstop movement.

Why Downtime Matters at Disney

I think one of the biggest Disney planning mistakes families make is overscheduling every minute.

Especially with kids.

The truth is:
Everyone needs downtime.

And sometimes the most meaningful memories happen during:

  • Midday breaks
  • Resort afternoons
  • Casual activities
  • Unexpected slow moments

That’s exactly why we love places like Simba’s Clubhouse so much.

Because they create room for connection.

And honestly? Those are often the memories I treasure most.

Final Thoughts

When people think about Disney World, they usually think about rides, fireworks, and castles.

But some of my favorite Disney memories look a lot quieter than that.

They look like:
💛 Perler beads spread across a table
🎨 Half-painted ceramics
🛋️ Sitting together after a long park morning
🌿 Relaxing at Animal Kingdom Lodge while the kids play games nearby

And that’s why Simba’s Clubhouse has become such a meaningful part of our Disney trips over the years.

Not because it’s a “must-do.”

But because it reminds us to slow down enough to actually enjoy being together.
