Why You Don’t Need 5 Cities in 7 Days (And What to Do Instead)

Planning a Europe trip is exciting—until you start building the itinerary.

Suddenly, it feels like you have to see everything. Paris, Rome, Florence, Barcelona… all in one trip. And before you know it, you’ve mapped out five cities in seven days.

On paper, it looks incredible. In reality? It’s exhausting.

The Problem: Trying to See Too Much

It’s one of the most common mistakes I see when families and couples plan European vacations.

More stops feels like more value—but what it actually creates is:

  • Constant packing and unpacking
  • Hours lost in transit
  • Tight schedules with no flexibility
  • Little time to actually enjoy each destination

Instead of feeling relaxed and immersed, travelers often end up feeling rushed and overwhelmed.

Why More Stops ≠ A Better Trip

Every time you change locations, you lose valuable time.

That “quick” travel day usually includes:

  • Packing up your hotel
  • Transportation to the airport or train station
  • Waiting, delays, and boarding
  • Travel time
  • Getting to your next hotel
  • Checking in and settling

What looks like a 2-hour train ride can easily take up half your day.

Multiply that across multiple cities, and suddenly your vacation becomes a series of travel days instead of experiences.

The Better Way: Less Movement, More Enjoyment

The best trips I plan focus on quality over quantity.

Instead of trying to see everything, I recommend:

  • Choosing 2–3 destinations
  • Staying longer in each place
  • Prioritizing experiences over checklists

This allows for:

  • Slower mornings
  • More meaningful exploration
  • Time to discover places beyond the main attractions
  • A more relaxed, enjoyable pace

These are the trips people come home from feeling refreshed—not like they need another vacation.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

Instead of:
✖️ 5 cities in 7 days

Try:
✔️ 2 cities with 3–4 nights each

Instead of rushing to check off landmarks, you’ll have time to:

  • Sit down for a long dinner
  • Wander without a plan
  • Enjoy your hotel and surroundings
  • Experience the destination—not just pass through it

You Don’t Have to Figure This Out Alone
